The Anatolian Shepherd is a large, loyal, intelligent, and beautiful dog. originating from Turkey, this breed is a great match for active families with older children. She is a great match for families with other animals as they tend to be very territorial. *Special Health Considerations. Canine hip dysplasia (genetic based looseness in the hip joint that can lead to arthritis pain and lameness) can occur in this breed. *Life Span. She can live from 14 to 17 years with proper nutrition, health care and excellent living conditions.
*History. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog comes from a section of Turkey called Anatolia. It was bred to be a herder. This dog was imported to the United States in the 1930s and was granted permission to enter the AKC by the American Kennel Association on September 10, 1936. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog Association was incorporated on May 20, 1938.
